Starting a Chapter
If you'd like to start a new IAAP chapter, we'll be glad to help you. Here are the steps involved in building a new IAAP chapter:
- Initiate a New Chapter Request — All it takes is a call or email to the Illinois Division New Chapter Builder, who will help you get started.
- Submit an M-10 form — The New Chapter Builder will help you with the "Request for Approval-Authorization to Form New IAAP Chapter" form.
- Receive Start-Up Materials — After you receive clearance to form a new chapter, the IAAP Headquarters Membership Department will send you a packet of materials.
- Plan and Execute an Organizational Meeting — The New Chapter Builder will help you determine a time and location for the first new chapter organizational meeting and help you compile of list of those to be invited to this meeting. You can begin to compile the list by contacting area Chambers of Commerce. You may also want to request lists of recent graduates of area secretarial/office administration educational institutions.
- Conduct Follow-Up Meeting — After the first new chapter organizational meeting, you should have a good idea of who is interested in creating a new chapter. This is the time to get applications from interested potential members.
- Processing Applications — The New Chapter Builder will help you complete and return to IAAP Headquarters a STF-5 New Chapter Report form, including all existing membership applications, International dues, and processing fees.
- Bylaws — The Illinois Division Bylaws and Standing Rules Committee will work with you to prepare the new chapter's bylaws and standing rules.
- New Chapter Installation — We'll help you plan the installation for your new chapter.
