Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What are the benefits of becoming a member of IAAP?
IAAP membership benefits, for both individuals and their employers, are outlined on our benefits page.
How much does it cost to join?
See detailed information on our how to join page.
Should I join a local chapter?
Chapter membership is highly recommended, but optional. By participating in chapter meetings and events, a member will have many opportunities to network with fellow administrative professionals.
Do I have to join a local chapter?
No. You can join initially as Member-at-Large and transfer to a chapter at a later date.
How do I contact a local chapter in my area?
Information about Illinois Division Chapters is located on the Chapters link at the top of this page.
What does it mean to be a Member-at-Large?
If you join and do not opt to join a local chapter you can be an International Member-at-Large or Division Member-at-Large. As an International Member-at-Large, you would receive all of your information on resources from IAAP Headquarters and would not be affiliated with a local chapter. As a Division Member-at-Large, you would also receive regional updates from your Division and would receive the Division newsletter and other communications. You may transfer your membership at any time by contacting a local chapter or the membership department at Headquarters.
If my company chooses to join, what classification should they choose?
IAAP memberships are individual memberships. A company representative who does not qualify as a Professional member or student may join as an Associate member. This classification allows the company to hold the membership and specify a contact person for the company. This also allows flexibility to transfer the membership to a different company representative if needed.
Do I have to have the Certified Professional Secretary (CPS) or Certified Administrative Professional (CAP) rating to become a member?
No, certification is not a requirement of membership.
